Lip Sync
With the Lockdown over and the Covid-19 Alert Level reduced to 1, the first part of Term 3 felt like business as usual. The school community was able to come together for events such as the Inter-house Lip Sync Competition.
One act play festival
As the sinister presence of Covid-19 sprang into snarling action again like a slasher-movie villain back for a sequel, we continued to see regular events postponed, curtailed, truncated or otherwise adapted. The school's thespians found that their beloved One Act Play competition had been put to the sword, so the Drama department staged an in-house, One Act Play Festival, captured in the two videos below.

Writing successes
Term 3 also saw two significant success stories for our young and younger writers. Firstly, Year 13 student Atlas Labhsetwar was named Runner Up in the prestigious Katherine Mansfield Short Story Competition. You can read their short story, Hidden Sacrifices here.
All Year 9 students were also engaged in the creation of prose and verse during the annual Writing Week, culminating in some fantastic visual displays to go along with the thematically linked writing pieces. Congratulations to 9TR who won the inaugural Writing Week Cup. Photos of the displays can be found here.

Outdoor education
After COVID saw the cancellation of the annual year 12 ski trip, our 2OUT classes organised their own overnight experiences. They were assessed on their abilities to plan, implement and evaluate the entirety of these trips, using risk management strategies to keep safe. Mr Ewens' class organised to walk the Putangirua Pinnacles (featured in Lord of the Rings!) and camped overnight at Bucks Road Campsite. Mr Taylor's class completed the stunning Paekakariki Escarpment Track and camped overnight at Paekakariki Holiday Park. Students learnt plenty about themselves, each other and how to successfully organise an outdoor experience.
Year 11 Semi-Formal
The final week of Term 3 saw the COVID-19 Alert Level finally reduced back down to 1, allowing the annual Year 11 Semi-Formal to take place. Year 11s were able to cut loose in a night of fun and revelry, a fitting end to the school term. Photos here.
