Lockdown Showdown
Term 2 will always be remembered most for the Lockdown/Rāhui, which opened its maw and took a juicy bite out of the end of Term 1, the holidays and the first several weeks of Term 2. However, it wasn't all about watching Netflix and attending online Zoom lessons during this surreal period. The student Exec ensured that the inter-house competition continued with the Lockdown Showdown video contest. Below are the winning entries.

48HOURS Lockdown Edition
With the Lockdown scuppering plans for a regular competition, the organisers of the 48HOURS filmmaking competition threw together a Lockdown version of the comp at short notice. With literally nothing better to do, several students and staff members met up on Zoom for the competition launch at 7PM Friday, April 17. A full playlist of the films that were eventually produced within the bubbles of the Newlands College contingent before 7PM Sunday can be found here.
Sheilah Winn Shakespeare competition
This year's entry into the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare competition was done via a video entry (see below) due to COVID-19 restrictions. Attendees at the Arts Awards ceremony in Term 4 were privileged to see a live rendition of this unique spin on the "cauldron scene" from the Scottish Play (Macbeth).
48HOURS Noscars edition
In an unbridled display of masochism, students and staff shrugged off the fatigue of the Longest Term in Living Memory and launched into a homegrown version of the 48HOURS filmmaking competition at the end of Term 2. First prize was instant selection for this year's Noscars. Below are before and after photos at the beginning and end of the weekend. Underneath that are the films selected as winner and co-runners up for the competition. A full playlist of all the completed short films can be found here.
